Black Magic hasn't changed much since previous Final Fantasys, but it is as important as ever. You need to understand monsters' weaknesses and resistances and use magic accordingly. Magic is very helpfull against monsters ressistant to physical attacks. Magic is learned on the sphere grid, which gives you an oppertunity to get all of your party members using black magic, so you don't have to rely entirely on Lulu.
